When a shopper asks ChatGPT for the best stick vacuum for a small flat, the answer is a product carousel, not a list of links. OpenAI says shopping in ChatGPT is live for U.S. users, and Google's AI Mode builds shopping answers from a Shopping Graph of more than 50 billion product listings. For an ecommerce brand, brand-level mention tracking is no longer enough: you need to know which of your products get recommended, at which retailer, and next to which rivals. Below are seven AI visibility tools ranked on that job, with every price and feature read from the vendor's own page on 3 November 2026. We make Mentionova, one of the seven, and it has no product-level module, so we say plainly where it fits and where it does not.
See whether ChatGPT and Perplexity recommend your products. Start a free Mentionova trial, no card.
What are the key takeaways?
- Product-level tracking is the dividing line. Peec AI, Profound, Scrunch and AthenaHQ describe SKU or product-level views, and Promptwatch lists Shopping Insights on its Business plan.
- Peec AI is the cheapest way to get SKU-level tracking. Its AI Shopping module, with Shopify or CSV catalog upload, is listed on every plan from $95 a month.
- Otterly is the cheapest way to watch ChatGPT Shopping Cards and ads. Tracking of which products, prices and retailers appear is included on every plan, from $29 a month.
- Profound and Scrunch put their deepest product data on Enterprise. Profound lists ChatGPT Shopping on Enterprise only; Scrunch lists Product Observability on Enterprise only.
- Mentionova tracks the buying prompts, not the catalog. Starter is $125 a month ($99 annual) for 25 prompts on ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google, with Reddit threads and CMS drafts, but no SKU-level reporting.
How do AI engines recommend products today?
ChatGPT, Google AI Mode and the Gemini app now answer shopping questions with product listings, prices and retailer links. OpenAI says ChatGPT picks products from structured metadata supplied by merchants and third-party providers; Google's AI Mode draws on its Shopping Graph. Both make product data, not just brand content, the input that decides who gets recommended.
What the platforms say on their own pages, read on 3 November 2026:
| Platform | What it does for shoppers | What decides the products shown | Source |
|---|---|---|---|
| ChatGPT search | Product options with images, details and links when a question shows shopping intent | Structured metadata from first- and third-party providers, the query and context such as Memory; results "are not ads" | OpenAI Help Center |
| ChatGPT merchants | Brands share product feeds to appear in results; shopping is live for U.S. users | Shopify and Etsy catalogs are already integrated; other merchants apply | chatgpt.com/merchants |
| ChatGPT shopping research | A personalized buyer's guide built after clarifying questions | Publicly available retail sites, read directly; merchants can follow an allowlisting process | OpenAI |
| Google AI Mode | Conversational shopping answers with prices, reviews, inventory and comparison tables | The Shopping Graph: more than 50 billion listings, 2 billion updated every hour | Google, 13 Nov 2025 |
| Google agentic checkout | Google buys a tracked item on the merchant's site with Google Pay, after the shopper confirms | Eligible U.S. merchants such as Wayfair, Chewy, Quince and select Shopify merchants | Same Google post |
OpenAI also says shopping research performs especially well in electronics, beauty, home and garden, kitchen and appliances, and sports and outdoor. If you sell in those categories, product answers are already shaping the shortlist. For usage figures, see our ChatGPT shopping statistics and Google AI Mode statistics.
What should an ecommerce AI visibility tool track?
An ecommerce tool should track four layers: whether your brand is named, which of your products appear, which retailer or merchant gets the click, and which sources the engine cited. Brand-level trackers cover the first and last. Product-level tools add SKU visibility, merchant share and, in some cases, sponsored placements beside organic results.
| Capability | Why it matters for a store | Tools that list it (vendor pages, 3 Nov 2026) |
|---|---|---|
| Catalog upload or product mapping | Ties AI answers to your actual SKUs | Peec AI (Shopify or CSV, including Google Merchant Center exports) |
| SKU-level visibility | Shows which products win and which never appear | Peec AI, Profound, AthenaHQ, Scrunch |
| Merchant or retailer share | Shows whether you, Amazon or a reseller gets the sale | Profound (merchant layer), Scrunch (retailer landscape), Peec AI (top merchants) |
| Shopping-trigger rate | How often category queries open a shopping interface instead of text | Profound (shopping mode rate) |
| Shopping cards and ads in answers | Paid units can push organic products down | Otterly (ChatGPT ads and Shopping Cards), Peec AI (ads library), Promptwatch (Ads Radar) |
| Cited sources per answer | Review sites, listicles and Reddit threads behind a recommendation | All seven tools |
| Content and listing fixes | Turns a gap into a page, feed or description change | Profound (feed and structured data), AthenaHQ (AI-optimized descriptions), Mentionova (briefs and CMS drafts) |

"Engines on entry plan" means the cheapest paid plan. Several tools add engines on higher plans or as add-ons.
Which AI visibility tool fits which ecommerce team?
Match the tool to your catalog and budget. A Shopify brand that wants SKU data under $100 should start with Peec AI. A team that mainly worries about ChatGPT Shopping Cards and ads can start with Otterly at $29. Large retailers that need merchant share should look at Profound or Scrunch Enterprise.
Is Peec AI the best ecommerce option on a self-serve budget?
Peec AI Starter is $95 a month for 50 prompts tracked daily on three models you choose, with unlimited users. Every plan lists the AI Shopping module: a product catalog fetched from Shopify or uploaded as a CSV, including a Google Merchant Center export, with visibility, position and win rate per product.
The module also lists top merchants, shopping query fan-outs and shopping source visibility, meaning the domains and URLs AI retrieved when it recommended a product. An ads library shows prompts where answers carry a sponsored placement. See our Peec AI alternatives for the wider field.
Is Otterly enough if you mainly care about ChatGPT Shopping Cards?
Otterly Lite is $29 a month, or $25 billed annually, for 15 prompts tracked daily on ChatGPT, Google AI Overviews, Perplexity and Copilot. Otterly records the paid units in ChatGPT answers, including advertiser, link and copy, and the products, prices and retailers behind each Shopping Card.
Otterly says this tracking runs by default in every Brand Report at no extra cost. Standard is $189 for 100 prompts and adds API and MCP access. Otterly does not describe catalog upload or SKU mapping, so it tells you what appeared, not how each of your products performs.
Is Profound the strongest choice for ChatGPT Shopping data?
Profound's Shopping feature tracks product visibility in ChatGPT Shopping-triggered responses, how answer engines describe product attributes, shopper sentiment and SKU-level citations. It also reports how often category queries trigger ChatGPT's shopping interface and which retailers own your checkout options.
Its pricing page lists ChatGPT Shopping on Enterprise only, not on the free trial. The trial runs 50 recommended prompts daily for 7 days on ChatGPT, Gemini and AI Overviews. Enterprise is custom, with up to 9 answer engines, API and exports. Profound suits brands that sell through several retailers and need merchant share.
Does Scrunch track product-level AI visibility?
Scrunch's Shopping page describes tracking which products show up in AI answers, where they rank, how that trends, share against competitors and which retailers AI sends buyers to. On its pricing table, Product Observability is listed for Enterprise, not for the $250 Core plan.
Core includes 125 prompts, 5,000 responses a month, 5 site audits and AI bot traffic on ChatGPT, Perplexity, Google AI Overviews and Copilot, with a 7-day free trial. Enterprise is custom, with 9 LLMs including Claude, Gemini, Google AI Mode and Grok.
Is AthenaHQ a good fit for marketplace sellers?
AthenaHQ's ecommerce page says it tracks AI visibility at product, category or brand level, works for marketplace sellers as well as direct-to-consumer brands, and connects AI recommendations to conversions through your analytics. It lists ChatGPT, Perplexity, Gemini, Claude, Copilot and AI Overviews for ecommerce.
Pricing starts with a free Essential tier of 300 credits. Starter is $295 a month for 3,600 credits, where one credit is one AI response, across 11 models. The pricing page lists a Shopify and Webflow integration, data export and a content optimization agent. API access and extra credits are paid add-ons.
When is Promptwatch the right pick for a store?
Promptwatch Essential is $95 a month for 50 prompts and 6,000 responses, tracked daily on every listed model, with MCP and API access. Its shopping features sit higher: Business, at $579 a month, adds Shopping Insights, Ads Radar, state and city tracking and up to hourly tracking.
Business also includes 350 prompts, 42,000 responses, content writing and refresh, agent analytics and fact checking. It suits larger stores that want shopping data and local tracking in one plan.
Where does Mentionova fit for an ecommerce brand?
Mentionova tracks the buying prompts you set, such as "best trail running shoes under $150", and logs whether you were named, your position, sentiment and every cited source. Starter is $125 a month ($99 annual) for 25 prompts on ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google; Scale is $400 for 100 prompts on six engines, adding Claude, Gemini and Reddit.
The Reddit tab lists the threads your engines cite and drafts a reply for you to post; Mentionova never posts on your behalf. Gaps come with ready briefs, and finished drafts push to WordPress, Webflow, Ghost, Sanity or a webhook. Mentionova lists no catalog upload, SKU reporting or Shopify publishing target.
How much does product-level AI tracking cost?
The cheapest listed route to SKU-level tracking is Peec AI at $95 a month. Otterly shows ChatGPT Shopping Cards from $29 but without SKU mapping. Promptwatch's Shopping Insights start at $579. Profound's ChatGPT Shopping and Scrunch's Product Observability are on custom Enterprise plans.
| Tool | Lowest plan with a product or shopping feature | Monthly price | Prompts on that plan |
|---|---|---|---|
| Otterly | Lite (Shopping Cards and ads) | $29 | 15 |
| Peec AI | Starter (AI Shopping, SKU-level) | $95 | 50 |
| Promptwatch | Business (Shopping Insights) | $579 | 350 |
| Profound | Enterprise (ChatGPT Shopping) | Custom | Custom |
| Scrunch | Enterprise (Product Observability) | Custom | Custom |
| Mentionova | No SKU-level plan; Starter tracks prompts | $125 | 25 |
AthenaHQ is left out of the table because its pricing page does not tie product-level tracking to a plan. Ask its sales team before you budget.
Why isn't my product showing up in ChatGPT?
ChatGPT shows a product when it judges it relevant to the shopper's intent, using structured product metadata from merchants and third-party providers, plus reviews and other web content. If your feed is incomplete, your listings are thin, or reviewers and roundups favor rivals, a competitor's product is the safer recommendation.
What OpenAI's own pages say you can act on:
- Product data. Shopify and Etsy catalogs are already integrated into ChatGPT. Other merchants can apply to share a product feed through chatgpt.com/merchants.
- Merchant ranking. When several merchants sell one product, OpenAI says it ranks them on availability, price, quality and whether the merchant is the maker or primary seller.
- Crawl access. For shopping research, OpenAI points merchants to an allowlisting process so their sites can appear in results.
- Reviews and sources. ChatGPT shows model-generated review summaries drawn from public websites. The review sites and threads it reads are the ones to win.
A product-level tool shows which of these is missing. To run a free manual check first, see How to check if ChatGPT mentions your brand.
Where does Mentionova lose for ecommerce brands?
Mentionova loses on product-level data. It has no catalog upload, no SKU or merchant reporting, no shopping-card or ads tracking and no Shopify publishing target. It also runs weekly by default and does not track Google AI Mode or Copilot. Stores that need SKU data should start with Peec AI, Profound or Scrunch.
- No product layer. Peec AI lists SKU-level tracking on every plan from $95; Mentionova lists none.
- Cadence. Mentionova's plans overview says scans refresh weekly. Peec AI, Otterly and Promptwatch run daily.
- Engines. Starter covers ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google. Google AI Mode, where Google launched conversational shopping, is not on Mentionova's engine list.
- Price per prompt. $125 for 25 prompts, against $95 for 50 at Peec AI.
Where it wins is the work around the products: the Reddit threads AI cites in your category, and briefs and drafts for the buying guides and comparison pages engines lean on. For DTC-specific picks, see AI visibility tools for DTC brands.
How do you set up AI visibility tracking for an online store?
Start with 25 to 50 prompts that mirror how shoppers ask: category plus constraint, comparisons and "is this brand worth it" questions. Track them daily or weekly on the engines your buyers use, connect your catalog if the tool supports it, and review results over at least two weeks.
- Write shopper prompts, not keywords. "Best waterproof hiking boots for wide feet under $200" beats "hiking boots".
- Cover three intents. Category questions, head-to-head comparisons and brand-trust questions.
- Connect the catalog where you can. Peec AI takes a Shopify catalog or a CSV, so results map to SKUs.
- Watch the merchants. If Amazon or a reseller wins the recommendation for your own product, fix your feed and your product pages first.
- Wait before you judge. AI answers vary between runs, so look at two weeks or more before changing course.

What do people ask about AI visibility tools for ecommerce?
Which AI visibility tool tracks product-level mentions in ChatGPT?
Peec AI lists SKU-level tracking on every plan from $95 a month, using a catalog from Shopify or a CSV. Profound tracks SKUs in ChatGPT Shopping on Enterprise. AthenaHQ and Scrunch also describe product-level tracking, with Scrunch's Product Observability on Enterprise.
How do I get my products into ChatGPT Shopping?
OpenAI says Shopify and Etsy catalogs are already integrated, with no extra setup. Other merchants can apply on chatgpt.com/merchants to share a product feed. OpenAI states product results are selected independently and are not ads.
Are ChatGPT product results paid placements?
No. OpenAI's help center says product results are selected independently by ChatGPT, are not ads and are not influenced by OpenAI partnerships. Ads are shown separately. Otterly and Peec AI both track sponsored placements in answers alongside organic results.
What is the cheapest AI visibility tool for an online store?
Otterly Lite is the lowest monthly bill at $29 for 15 daily prompts, and it tracks ChatGPT Shopping Cards and ads. For SKU-level tracking, Peec AI Starter at $95 is the cheapest listed plan. AthenaHQ has a free Essential tier with 300 credits.
Does Google AI Mode show products in its answers?
Yes. Google says AI Mode answers shopping questions with prices, reviews, inventory and comparison tables, powered by its Shopping Graph of more than 50 billion listings. Agentic checkout in AI Mode was rolling out to eligible U.S. merchants when Google announced it.
Do I need SKU-level tracking or is brand tracking enough?
If shoppers ask category questions and you sell a handful of products, brand-level prompt tracking can be enough. If you sell many SKUs through several retailers, product-level tracking shows which items and merchants win, which brand tracking cannot.
Is Mentionova a good AI visibility tool for ecommerce?
For product-level data, no: it has no catalog upload or SKU reporting. It fits ecommerce teams that want to track buying prompts on ChatGPT, Perplexity and Google, find the Reddit threads AI cites and turn gaps into buying guides and comparison pages.
